Credit Bureau Portfolio and Account Type Codes

The credit bureau uses a combination of two codes to classify loans on the credit reports.

Portfolio Type
Identifies loans as Mortgage (M), Installment (I), Credit Line/Line of Credit (C), Revolving (R), or Open (O).

Account Type
Represents a specific kind of loan, such as Education (12), Home Improvement (04), Conventional Real Estate (26), etc.

The LNS System assigns the Portfolio and Account Type codes each month when your credit bureau files are created. These assignments are based on the note criteria and the credit bureau standards. For a list of the codes and criteria used, see the topic for System Assigned Portfolio and Account Types.

The Portfolio and Account Type codes are:

Reported with the Borrower information in the Base Segment of the credit bureau file

Listed on the Credit Bureau Reference Report (LD-625) and Download File for your information

Stored on the note as the Credit Bureau Last Account Type and Credit Bureau Last Portfolio Type

Displayed on the Delinquency main tab, Credit Bureau sub tab of an Account Lookup

System-generated and not available for maintenance

The Portfolio Type code is also used to:

Determine if Interest Due is excluded from the balance reported (when lns option 3265 is used).

Identify how specific information such as Committed Liability Amount and Term Duration must be reported.

Verify valid entries for the Credit Bureau Compliance Condition and Metro Comment codes.

Note: Portfolio and Account Type Overrides can be used when needed to better reflect specific types of loans. See the Portfolio and Account Type Overrides topic for detailed information.
